SYNOPSIS
This musical comedy Whodunit by the creators of "Cabaret" and "Chicago" (Kander and Ebb) is set backstage in the Colonial Theater in Boston, Massachusetts in 1959. It follows the events that occur after a supremely untalented star of "Robbin' Hood of the Old West" is murdered during her opening night curtain call. Can a police detective who moonlights as a musical theater fan save the show, solve the case, and maybe even find love before the show reopens, without getting killed himself?
Lakeland Players Community Theatre presents Curtains, the hot 'musical comedy whodunit' from the creators of Chicago and Cabaret, with performances October 24, 25, 30 and November 1 at Lakeland High School. It features a book by Rupert Holmes, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
Directed by Steve Krupa, produced by Paul Stark, with choreography by Katey Gay and music direction by Dodie Berry and Nan Lichtenberg. Curtains stars Greg McCarthy as police lieutenant Frank Cioffi who arrives at Boston's Colonial Theatre in 1959 to investigate the death of the leading lady played by Cecelia Julien. The lure of the theatre proves too much for Cioffi, who is just as drawn towards making a hit show as he is to solving the murder. Other lead parts are played by Jackie Simoneau as Cioffi's love interest, Niki Harris, Linda Freeze as the Producer, Carmen Bernstein, Steve Watkins as her philandering husband, Sidney, Rick Shaw as the over-the-top director of the musical-within-the-musical and Abigail Lee as the lyricist turned new leading lady, Georgia Hendricks. Also in prime roles are Mario Razo as the composer and Georgia's former husband, Aaron Fox, Joel Fabian as the financial backer, Oscar Shapiro, Geoff Wrobel as the leading man and choreographer of the musical-within-the-musical, Bobby Pepper, and Maddy Ike as Bambi.
Performances are Saturday, October 24th and Friday, October 30th at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM on October 25th and November 1st, 2009. Tickets are priced at $10.
